AT89S52 是一款低功耗、高效能的 CMOS 8 位元微控制器，內建 8K Bytes 可於系統內（In-System）重新編程的 Flash 記憶體。此裝置採用高密度非揮發性記憶體技術製造，並完全相容於業界標準的 80C51 指令集與腳位配置。內建 Flash 記憶體可在系統中重新寫入，或透過一般的非揮發性記憶體編程器進行程式下載。

將可編程 Flash 與多功能 8 位元 CPU 整合於單晶片中，使 AT89S52 成為一款功能強大、彈性高且具成本效益的微控制器，非常適合各類嵌入式控制應用。

AT89S52 具備完整的標準周邊：8K Bytes Flash、256 Bytes RAM、32 組 I/O 腳位、Watchdog 計時器、兩組資料指標、三組 16-bit 計時器/計數器、六向量雙層中斷架構、全雙工序列埠、內建振盪器與時鐘電路。

此外，AT89S52 採用完全靜態邏輯設計，可在 0 Hz 至 33 MHz 範圍內運作，並支援兩種可由軟體選擇的省電模式：

Idle Mode：CPU 停止，但 RAM、計時器/計數器、序列埠與中斷系統持續運作。
Power-down Mode：保存 RAM 內容並停止振盪器，關閉其他功能，直到下一次中斷或硬體重置。
