FlexiForce Pressure Sensor (100lbs)

Description

The FlexiForce A201 from Tekscan is a standard, off-the-shelf piezoresistive force sensor that meets the needs of most users. It’s thin, flexible, and available in a variety of pre-cut lengths, making it ideal for proof-of-concept development. The A201 is specifically designed for non-intrusive force and pressure measurement across a wide range of applications.

This sensor operates on the principle that the harder you press, the lower its resistance. In a resting state, the resistance is virtually infinite; when pressure is applied to the circular sensing area at the end, the resistance can drop to approximately 300kΩ. Bending or flexing the sensor itself does not affect its output — only vertical pressure on the sensing zone causes resistance changes.
The sensor measures approximately 8.5 inches in length and features a 0.1" pitch, reinforced male header that’s breadboard-friendly. It's easy to use with multimeters or custom electronics.

Common use cases include presence detection (e.g., someone standing), weight sensing, pressure monitoring, and impact testing. The A201 is available in three standard force ranges; this version supports 0–100 lbs of measurable pressure.

• To measure forces above 100 lbs (up to 1000 lbs), reduce the drive voltage (e.g., -0.5 V or -0.1 V) and lower the resistance of the feedback resistor (minimum 1kΩ).
• Conversely, sensitivity for low-force measurement can be increased by raising the drive voltage or feedback resistance.
