電子墨水螢幕採用“微膠囊電泳顯示”技術進行圖像顯示，其工作原理是懸浮在液體中的帶電納米粒子受到電場作用而產生遷移，在環境光下通過反射形成接近傳統印刷紙張的顯示效果。電子墨水螢幕能夠在燈光，自然光等環境光下清晰地顯示畫面，無需背光，可視角度幾乎達到180°。因其媲美傳統紙張的顯示效果，常被用於閱讀器之類的應用。
